When the Alabama Crimson Tide beat out the Clemson Tigers during the College Football Playoff (CFP) National Championship on Monday, the game’s environmental impact was being reduced by clean energy.
TerraPass, a member of the Just Energy Group of companies, says it greened up the game with renewable energy credits and carbon offsets, which provide financial support to renewable energy and emission-reduction projects, such as wind power, cow power and natural gas capture.
TerraPass notes Playoff Fan Central, the CFP transportation fleet and competing teams’ travel and accommodations were “carbon neutral” thanks to the offsets.
“We are pleased to, once again, partner with CFP to continue to help balance the emissions associated with the championship game,” says Jeff Wolfe, president of TerraPass. “Colleges and universities are leading the way across America to fight climate change by reducing their impact on the environment.
The CFP, in partnership with TerraPass, offset enough carbon to fly the length of 130,000 football fields and light up 30,000 propane tanks for tailgating.
“Sustainability is one of the core principles of operations at the College Football Playoff National Championship,” says Jack Groh, who led sustainability efforts for the event. “We are reducing waste, offsetting energy emissions and creating a ‘green’ legacy through urban forestry projects. TerraPass is a key partner in those efforts.”
